“Fashion is the way of expressing yourself.” That’s the common statement from an American fashion statement made in the early twentieth century. Fashion is a mode of autonomy and self- expression in a certain time and venue and in a certain context, of clothes, footwear, accessories, hairstyles, makeup, and even body posture and facial expression.
Today fashion is represented by popular fashion magazines, high fashion world shows, celebrity fashion week, television programs, celebrity gossip columns, fashion weeks, new product launches, and Internet sites. The word simply means a style defined by the major fashion industry as what is trendy. There is also a broad selection of styles and categories for the same. This is one reason why fashion is continuously changing – the trends are always changing.
One of the biggest influences on women’s fashion today is very obvious: the media. From TV shows to movies to the internet, women around the world are constantly exposed to different styles and ideas about fashion. Some of these styles are so common that we don’t even notice them anymore. For example: dresses with puffy sleeves or cars that are much shorter than usual. These kinds of details are so common, they have almost become a staple of every woman’s wardrobe.
Women’s fashion is also influenced by current events in the world. For example: the Arab Spring uprisings that toppled the governments in several Arab countries and the huge global Trends like Celebrities and Fashion Houses which made the big celebrities and fashion designers even more popular and visible. Another thing that affects women’s fashion is the most unpredictable of weathers – the weather in America. It may be sunny one moment, then it can suddenly turn sour the next. This unpredictability makes it very interesting for fashion enthusiasts as it is one of the reasons why they enjoy following fashion trends.
One can’t really say that fashion trends are defined by these things; trends are actually made by people and events. However, there are certain styles that are more accepted by most women than others. One example of this would be the rocker chic style which look very chic and trendy right now, but a few years from now, it might just be one of the victims of a big fashion disaster. But even if a trend becomes more accepted by the general public, it is not dead yet – fashion is forever. What is important is to identify trends before they get too wide spread. This will ensure that you don’t get stuck with a wardrobe that is so out of date.
If ever you see something you like in the latest fashion magazines, don’t be afraid to try out the outfit as it might be so trendy and fashionable! Just because fashion designers are getting more experimental, doesn’t mean that you have to stay behind and copy what they are doing. Take a risk, try something new, and you might just look smashing!
